Hi, I'm Mika, the owner and creative behind Mika James Amaya Photography. Thank you for wanting to know more about me!
As a family photographer, I do my best to capture your life's events authentically. I use minimal props coupled with muted colors and neutral palettes that don't distract from the beautiful details and faces in front of my lens. As a Raleigh area photographer who specializes in maternity, newborn, and family portraiture, I believe in the beauty of simplicity. My goal is to document your family's story so you'll look back years from now and remember just how incredible those fleeting moments really were.
My promise is to deliver genuine, natural, and emotion-filled moments in a photograph for you, your children, and your family to cherish. Based out of Raleigh, North Carolina I love to travel and have been lucky enough to work with clients near and far. When I'm not behind the camera I love spending time with my family, quietly drinking coffee, and simply enjoying time outside in nature! A little more about me, I’m a Christian, have five children, am of Jamaican descent, and am fluent in Spanish.

– I grew up in Millbrook, NY, and had the absolute best childhood filled with playing in creeks, building forts in the woods, fishing, and catching fireflies.
– Paradise for me would include me living off-grid with my family on a hundred acres somewhere in the Northeast.
– I love Spanish culture and taught myself to speak the language when I couldn’t communicate with the Spanish-speaking women at McDonald’s - my first job.

the reservation
Family sessions are reserved on select weekday and weekend evenings at sunset. For newborn sessions, your due date is marked on my calendar to reserve your date. Once your baby is born, let me know and we will confirm your session date. Typically newborn sessions are held in the first 14 days after birth.

the planning
Our time together begins with a conversation because I want to learn your goals for the portrait session. For instance, in which room of your home do you plan to display your art? Is your heart set on an album? What are your biggest concerns? We will discuss everything ensuring a stress free portrait-session experience!
03.
the session
Family and maternity sessions will typically last one hour. We will have a lot of fun, play games to keep children interested and ensure a good time. During the session I will guide you through some poses, but mostly I will capture frame worthy candid moments you may not even realize are happening!
04.
the reveal
The editing process will take approximately two weeks. Once the images are ready for you to view, we will have the reveal and design appointment, if needed. I will help you decide on the best way to enjoy your favorite images for years to come.
